Circa:1750

A distinguished George II mahogany kneehole partners desk, crafted in solid, richly figured mahogany, this stately desk exhibits the restrained elegance characteristic of mid-18th-century English design.

The rectangular top with molded edge rests above a symmetrical arrangement of drawers—three across the frieze and two on either side of a central kneehole recess—each adorned with period-appropriate brass escutcheons and swan-neck pulls.

The chestnut leather writing surface is elegantly gilt-embossed.

The piece stands gracefully on cabriole legs terminating in pad feet, reflecting the soft curves and refined proportions of the Queen Anne and early Georgian aesthetic transition.

The drawers are oak-lined and fitted with hand-cut dovetails, testifying to its superb craftsmanship.

The mahogany’s warm patina has developed a deep, lustrous tone through centuries of careful use, enhancing its authenticity and character.

A Louis XVI Parquetry Guéridon with Ormolu Mounts

This refined Louis XVI guéridon exemplifies the artistry and elegance of late 18th-century French design. The circular top is richly decorated with an intricate parquetry, arranged in a finely executed diamond trellis pattern, bordered by a contrasting veneer band that subtly frames the composition. Encircling the top, a delicate gilt-bronze (ormolu) molding provides a touch of restrained opulence while also serving as a protective rim. The frieze continues the trellis motif and is punctuated with finely cast gilt-bronze mounts of scrolling acanthus, foliage, and rosettes, each mount masterfully detailed to highlight the neoclassical ornament vocabulary associated with the reign of Louis XVI. The table is supported by four elegantly tapered, fluted legs, a hallmark of the neoclassical aesthetic, terminating in gilt-bronze capitals and sabots.
