A Pair of Early 18th Century Louis XIV Transitional to Régence Walnut Fauteuils with bec de corbin arms and stylized X-shaped stretchers below antique tapestry upholstered seats and backs accented with nailhead trim.

This is an extremely rare and elegant pair of armchairs, each with a beautifully aged walnut frame and upholstered in original 17th Century tapestry panels of exceptional charm. The tall rectangular backs and generous seats are covered in richly woven verdure and pastoral scenes, depicting courtly figures within floral landscapes in a palette of crimson, sage, moss green, ochre, faded blue and faded gold. Subtle irregularities in the weave reveal centuries of age and authenticity.

The tapestry fragments from Aubusson workshops, exhibit the refined weaving and naturalistic coloration typical of the late 17th century. Each chair retains its original patina and is trimmed with large, hand-forged brass nailheads. The curving walnut arms terminate in “raven’s beak” scroll hand-rests and stand on sturdy legs joined by an elegant X-form stretcher —characteristic of the Louis XIV and early Régence period.

Together, the pair exudes timeless warmth and authenticity, blending noble craftsmanship with the romantic texture of antique textiles.
